Dryer vent cleaning clears the lint that builds up between your dryer and the outside wall. It takes about twenty minutes as part of a duct cleaning, costs $90 for a house, and is already included when we clean a condo.
Every load sheds lint, and the screen catches only part of it. The rest travels down the pipe and settles in the elbows and at the hood, where it narrows the duct a little more each month. The dryer then takes longer, runs hotter, and uses more power to do the same job. In a basement laundry room with a long run to the wall, the duct can be half blocked within a few years.
We clean dryer vents on the same visit as the ducts, with the same technicians, and we check airflow at the outside hood before we leave. Book it from the add-ons step of the quote form.
Signs your dryer vent is clogged
Clothes take two cycles to dry
The most common sign. A blocked vent can't move the damp air out, so the dryer runs and runs. It also means the heating element is working harder than it should.
The dryer is hot to the touch
The top of the machine, or the laundry room itself, is warmer than usual at the end of a cycle. Heat that should be leaving the house is staying in.
Lint around the outside hood
Lint on the wall, the flapper stuck open or shut, or no air coming out of the hood while the dryer runs.
A burning smell
Lint sitting against the heating element or in the exhaust can scorch. Stop using the dryer and have the vent cleared.
A long or winding run
Basement laundry rooms often have ten metres or more of duct with several elbows before the outside wall. Each elbow collects lint.
It has never been done
If you don't know when the vent was last cleaned, it's time. Most of the vents we open have never been touched.
What a dryer vent cleaning includes
Dryer base and blower
We pull the dryer out and clean the lint that collects at the base and around the blower wheel, so the machine moves air the way it was designed to.
Flex pipe behind the dryer
The flexible pipe between the dryer and the wall is removed and cleaned with a rotary brush and vacuum, or replaced if it's crushed or foil-torn.
The run to the outside wall
The rigid duct inside the wall or ceiling is brushed from end to end with negative pressure pulling the lint out, including the elbows where it packs in.
Exterior hood and flapper
Lint is cleared from the hood, and we check that the flapper opens freely and closes again, so cold air and animals stay out.
Condo: trap box and balcony exhaust
In a suite we clean from the dryer to the lint trap box in the ceiling, and from the box out to the balcony exhaust if it's accessible.
Airflow check
We run the dryer and confirm there's strong, warm airflow at the outside hood before we leave.

How much does dryer vent cleaning cost in Toronto?
$90 when added to a duct cleaning, house or condo. Book two add-ons and the third is free. On its own, call us for a price.
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
Once a year for a household that dries most days, and at the first sign of long dry times. A short, straight run from a main-floor laundry room can go longer than a long basement run with several elbows.
Can I clean the dryer vent myself?
You can clean the lint screen and the first stretch of flex pipe behind the dryer. The run inside the wall and the exterior hood need a brush on rods and a vacuum, which is what we bring.
Is it included in a condo duct cleaning?
Yes. A condo cleaning already includes the dryer vent from the dryer to the trap box, and the balcony side when it's reachable. For a house it's an add-on.
Do you replace the flex pipe?
If the foil pipe is torn or crushed we'll tell you and can replace it with rigid or semi-rigid duct. A new flex pipe is a small extra; we'll give you the price before we do it.
Why does a clogged vent matter beyond slow drying?
Lint is dry and burns easily, and it sits next to the hottest part of the dryer. Fire services in Ontario and across North America list unmaintained dryer vents among the common causes of house fires, and a blocked vent also pushes heat and humidity back into the laundry room.
