Air Vent Cleaning in Toronto
Every supply vent and return, the ducts behind them and the furnace blower, cleaned with the truck-mounted vacuum. Priced by home size, from $399, never per vent.
The vents are the part of the duct system you can see, and the dust on them comes from the part you can’t. Wiping a register cleans a few square inches at the end of a run that may be ten metres long. A proper vent cleaning takes the registers off, air-washes every run back to the trunk with the vacuum pulling the other way, and cleans the blower that moves the air through them.
That is our standard 12-step duct cleaning, priced by the size of the home, from $399 before HST. There is no per-vent charge. If you’ve been quoted per vent by phone, read this first.
Bathroom exhaust fans and the dryer vent are separate runs and get cleaned on the same visit: as add-ons for a house, and included (the dryer vent and one bathroom fan) for a condo.
Signs the vents need more than a wipe
Dust streaks on the wall or ceiling around a vent
Air leaving a dirty duct carries dust with it, and it settles in a fan shape around the register. Wiping it off treats the symptom; it comes back.
Grey fuzz on the register fins
What you can see on the fins is the end of a run that looks the same all the way back to the trunk.
A vent that blows weakly
A run partly filled with debris, or a register that has been painted over or blocked, moves less air. The far bedrooms are usually the first to notice.
A musty smell when the system starts
Smells from the vents usually come from what is sitting in the ducts or the blower, not from the register itself.
Dust back a week after you cleaned
If you dust the house and the surfaces are grey again within days, the ducts are feeding it. Cleaning the vents alone will not change that.
After renovation, or a new-to-you home
Construction dust goes straight into the floor registers and down the runs. A house you've just bought has ducts of unknown history.
What a vent cleaning includes
Pre-inspection
We look at the vents, the returns and the furnace, and tell you what we find before we start. You see the before photos as we go.
Registers and grilles off
Every supply register and return grille is removed, cleaned, and put back. Painted-shut or stuck registers are freed.
Vacuum connected at the trunk
The truck-mounted vacuum is attached to the main supply and return trunks, so what we loosen from each vent is pulled out of the house, not pushed into the next room.
Each run air-washed from the vent
Compressed air is worked down every supply run from the register back toward the trunk, where the vacuum collects it. Returns are done the same way.
Trunks and furnace blower
The main trunks are brushed and blown out, and the blower wheel and filter slot are cleaned, so the source of the dust goes along with the vents.
Bathroom exhaust fans and dryer vent
Exhaust fans and the dryer vent are separate runs with their own fans. For a house they are add-ons; a condo cleaning includes the dryer vent and one bathroom fan.

Our renovation contractor left a lot of debris in our HVAC ducts. Even with two prior duct cleaning services done by the other people, there was still a lot of dust and debris inside the ducts. Misha and Obeb from Air Force Shield spent two and a half hours removing all the dust and debris. They are nice and professional. We'd like to have them do the same job when needed.

Tayeb and Florian did a great job cleaning our ducts today. They showed up on time, were friendly and professional, and explained what they were doing as they went. They were thorough with every run and the furnace, and left the house as clean as they found it. They even sent before-and-after photos with the invoice so we could see the difference. Being in the HVAC business myself, I appreciate good work, and these two delivered. Highly recommend Air Force Shield and especially Tayeb and Florian!

We had Air Force Shield clean the ducts at my parents’ home and were very happy with the service. They arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and took the time to explain everything. They also showed me photos of the work they’d done and even replaced the furnace filter. A great experience overall. I’d happily recommend them!

Vent Cleaning questions
Is vent cleaning the same as duct cleaning?
The vents are the ends of the ducts. Cleaning a register on its own is a five-minute wipe and lasts about a week; a duct cleaning cleans the registers, the runs behind them, the trunks and the furnace blower, which is where the dust comes from. When people ask for vent cleaning, the full duct cleaning is what they need.
Can I clean the vents myself?
You can take the registers off and wash them, and vacuum the first foot of each run. The runs, trunks and blower need a vacuum connected at the trunk with the registers sealed, which is the professional part.
Do you clean bathroom exhaust vents?
Yes. The bathroom and laundry room exhaust fans are separate runs with their own fans. For a house, three of them are a $90 add-on. A condo cleaning includes one bathroom fan.
How much does vent cleaning cost in Toronto?
It is priced as a duct cleaning, by home size, not per vent: $399 for a house under 2,000 sq ft, up to $499 for 4,000 sq ft, before HST. A condo is $399 flat. There is no per-vent charge and no extra once we are in the house.
How long does it take?
About an hour and a half for a house, and about 45 minutes for a condo suite.
Why is a 'per vent' price a warning sign?
Offers of a few dollars a vent, usually by phone, tend to end with add-on charges once a crew is in the house, or a quick blow-out that never reaches the trunks. A fair price is by home size and fixed before the job. We never cold-call.
